Empowerment to Live It

You may read parts of this blog and think to yourself, “There is no way I could ever do what he’s talking about with any kind of consistency.”  I don’t blame you.  It would be safe to say that we humans are incapable of consistently demonstrating the kind of love and character that I sometimes talk about.  Fortunately, we don’t have to conjure up this stuff on our own.  In the book of Romans it says, “God has poured His love into our hearts. He did it through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given to us.[i]”  When we receive God into our hearts, it’s a package deal.  We don’t just get Him.  We get His ability to love other people.  It’s a fascinating idea.  The love of God has been poured into our hearts!

I’m not saying that you won’t have to work at it.  Even with God on the inside, we still make choices daily to allow Him to dominate our lives.  Over time, though, we see more and more of His character and His love flowing through us.  The first step, though, is to invite Him in.  If you’ve never asked God into your life, let me give you that opportunity right now.

Consider this: God is Love[ii].  The Bible says, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.[iii]”  God believes in you so much that even before you came to Him, He sent Jesus to die on a cross…to pay the penalty for all of your screw-ups and for mine…so that He could welcome us back into relationship with Him.  The opportunity I’m providing right now is simply to respond to His love.  If you’re reading this and you find yourself believing that God loves you that much, that’s faith stirring up on the inside of you.  Put that faith to action and say this short prayer aloud.  When you do, you’ll start a whole new life filled with the hope and favor and LOVE of God:

Father God,
Thank you for sending Your Son, Jesus, into the world to die for me
and for raising Him from the dead so that I could spend eternity with You;
I ask You to come into my heart;
I make Jesus my Lord and my Savior and I receive my new life in you.

If you prayed that prayer, I believe that you’ve just started a new life in God.  Let me encourage you to start letting the love of God flow through you.  Find a great church that teaches the Bible, so others who are also growing in love can support what God is doing in you.  For a great example of perfect love to follow, read about the life of Jesus in the book of Mark.
